Mercy, Mercy, Mercy

Mercy, Mercy, Mercy

Please, please, please have mercy on me! You and I have experienced many loses that we thought we had forever, or ones that wouldn’t happen. What, when and who we loved most in one way or another will leave our ability to experience again. Such is life. Everything that happens is an opportunity to reach within to deal with it, and hopefully to use the most heartfelt way with common sense. Every loss or ‘breakup comes with an opportunity for a makeup’ of at least finding a better way to positively deal with them.

There is an expression we have all heard, ‘saved by God’s grace’. Mercy is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is also within one’s power to punish or harm them. So, to me, mercy is a “love that responds to human need in an unexpected or unmerited way.” At its core, mercy is forgiveness. The Bible speaks of God’s love for ‘sinners’ – that is, for all of us. But the Bible also relates mercy to other qualities beyond love and forgiveness.

Begging and hoping for another outcome than the one we are experiencing is a mercy calling. Just recently, and for the first time, I had a lower back extreme pain that made it difficult to walk. On that day I had bank obligations to meet as well as to get a few groceries, and for a roundtrip walk of a mile, it looked impossible without a ride. Out of the blue my brother who is an hour away said he was coming to visit shortly, and upon hearing of my sudden back problems he reminded me that he had had them on and off for 30 years. He came with great information on how to deal with it. My silent call for mercy-help was answered unexpectedly as mercy often does.

The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt in the heart..Helen Keller It is not the people who hurt you. It’s your own mind, your vulnerability and your own emotions that entangle you and make you feel hurt. With age, hopefully, wisdom comes. Wisdom is even more useful than intelligence. Wisdom is definitely something you can accumulate over a lifetime especially if you have an open, and discerning mind and heart. Few search for ways to become wise, but few feel they have ever achieved it, and if they have are not likely to ‘tout it’. What is wisdom? It’s-
Spiritual knowledge
Factual knowledge
Excellent judgement
Excellent problem solving skills
Ability to learn from past experiences
Humility, emotional strength or ability to recover from defeat
Openness and maturity – allowing another to see you as you really are. A deeper understanding of human nature, including empathy for others and others cultures. Don’t become trapped in your mental framework. Life has mercy waiting for all and especially for those that are in their heart! BE thankful for miracles and remember, ‘you are one’!
