It’s no laughing matter that you never seem to laugh! OMG! Knowing when to laugh be it smile, chuckle or (forgive the long list): chortle, guffaw, giggle, titter, snigger, snicker, cackle, howl, roar, tee-hee, burst out laughing, roar/hoot with laughter, shake with laughter, be convulsed with laughter, dissolve into laughter, split one’s sides, hold one’s sides, be doubled up;
be in stitches, die laughing, be rolling in the aisles, laugh like a drain, bust a gut, break up, be creased up, crease up, fall about, crack up or laugh excitedly – a major key to have in life is laughter!
Think of a newborn’s innocent laughter! What are they laughing about? Maybe they are just happy to be out and about with real eyes to communicate with. Although some need to laugh less or more appropriately, everyone could use a little help with improving their ‘laughter tool box’. How blessed we are to be able to laugh at so many things in so many ways. Seriousness can be like the darkness blocking the sunlight. To be ‘light’ is to be free of that which blocks joy and happiness. Convert ‘heaviness’ to lightness and the ability to use the many ways of laughter.
If you are too serious use this technique to open the laughter quality within you. For 30 days, twice a day find a quite, alone place, stand, sit, or lie down with eyes closed, relax, and slowly breath. Breath all the way up from the bottom of the belly every once of breath to when breathing halts, then slowly reverse the process, exhaling to where there is no more to exhale. In your mind, autosuggest more laughter in your life. While quietly breathing, say to yourself -‘ I’m moving deeper and deeper into laughing, I’m laughing, I’m moving deeper and deeper into laughing, I’m laughing’ -repeat that over and over in the slow ‘in and out’ breathing. Do this 6 or 7 ’round breathing times’ which might take a little over 5 minutes. When finished, keep the eyes close and just watch whatever comes up. After a few short weeks, you will always thereafter find infinite opportunities to see and use the many forms of laughter to lighten life up and be unattached to the negative.
Be chameleonic, serious what the situation requires, and at any moment, be available to find the ‘amusement’ within you with a twinkle in the eyes. Laughter can be a meditation to still the mind, and throw out any worries or blocks to happiness. And remember, ‘love is free’ not just ‘free love’.
