‘I Left my Heart in San Francisco’ – It was 50 years ago this month in December 1962, that the legendary singer Tony Bennet first sang this extraordinarily popular song in San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel in the Venetian Room. Now he still sings it to audiences world wide at 85 years old. He represents a person who lives with passion, recently saying, “That song helped make me a world citizen. It allowed me to live, work and sing in any city on the globe. It changed my whole life’’. He further adds a truism which I concur with from experience, that living with a passion for life, and perhaps something to give back to the world, no matter how small, is a secret to fill one’s heart with a love and life others can only begin to imagine.

The words, especially when heard sung, are an inspiration for all, and illustrative of a man’s passion for opening his heart to the world. The Lyrics are:

The loveliness of Paris seems somehow sadly gay,
The glory that was Rome is just another day,
I’ve been terribly alone and forgotten in Manhattan,
I’m going home to my city by the bay.

I left my heart in San Francisco, high on a hill it calls to me
To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars.
The morning fog may chill the air, I don’t care.
My love waits there in San Francisco, above the blue and windy sea,
When I come home to you, San Francisco, your golden sun will shine for me.

A life without passion is like an empty vessel gathering cob webs of a forgotten opportunity. The passion to know yourself, and find love and joy in being you is no less than the greatest passion to follow to reach the top of the hill where all the blessings that are for those who reach are kept. Your heart calls for you to move through the fogs of busyness to see clearly that the ‘high road’ of consciousness within, is the ‘peak’ you seek in this brief journey called ‘your life’. Passion comes from the heart that gives, and also receives the blessings rained down upon you. Step outside that which is of no passion, and be open to the passion for love and life which everyone is available for. You are no less than a ‘being for the passion of life and love’!
